How to submit a story
Visit our idea page and tell us what you’d like to cover. If you would like to ask a question about your possible submission first, contact (at) redcanary.ca
Red Canary’s editors will contact you about your idea. Although we try to review story ideas every week, sometimes we may take longer to get back to you. We thank you for your patience.
What to write about
Stories should be clear and informative. As for topics, write about what you know. Do you have an opinion on agile software development? Product marketing vs product management? Selling software to C-level and technical stakeholders? Write about it!
Quick FAQ
Q:Can I submit my own blog entries?
A: Yes. We will accept older blog posts. We will happily link to your original page and you can add your information to your Red Canary user page.
Q: I’m an expert on ~~insert esoteric software-related topic here~~. Should I submit a blog or article?
A: YES! We have a big audience of software professionals. You’re very likely to get responses. Just be prepared for the fact that they may not all agree with you.
Q:What’s the difference between a blog and a article?
A: Blogs tend to have a first-person point of view. Articles tend to take a more scholarly, third-person approach. This rule is not carved in stone. Blogs also tend to be short and articles tend to be long. If you’re not sure, we’ll help.
Q: Why should I bother to give you my writing?
A: Because it’s a good way to get your ideas and methodologies out into the wild and have them introduced to people in your discipline. Why not add a Linkedin button to your personal Red Canary profile and use it as a networking tool? I did.
Q:Is there a maximum word count?
A:No, though we may suggest very long pieces (over 1300 words) be split into two or more posts.
Q:Who owns the content?
A: You do. Unequivocally.
Q:Is there an option to turn comments off for my blog or article?
A: Sorry. The people must be heard.
