Location
Toronto

The Opportunity
Be equal parts Jacques Cartier and Jacques Cousteau as you explore and define market opportunities and strategies for high-tech, clean-tech and bio-tech companies.

Working under the aegis of an established tech incubator and accelerator, you’ll lead a seven-member team of market research specialists. Their mandate will be to provide expert and creative market intelligence for technology startups, with an eye towards commercial opportunity.

Be like...Jacques?
Jacques Cousteau wasn’t the first to plumb the ocean’s depths, but he was renowned for making his work marketable and accessible.

You’ll bring a similar skill-set to the table: a strategic approach to intelligence gathering and primary market research, as well as operational expertise that spots pearls among the oysters.

And like Cartier portaging along the St. Lawrence, the markets you’ll map may be largely unexplored and very broadly defined. You’ll need to be creative, intrepid and resourceful as you give your team project-specific tools and focus.

Reporting jointly to a Managing Director and Vice President, this role confers decision-making power over nearly every aspect of intelligence gathering activities, including resource/staff allocation, project scope, project priority, and strategic approaches.

Responsibilities
• Planning, organization, and general direction of the market intelligence function’s processes, programs, projects, and priorities
• Designing policies and procedures related to the operation of a comprehensive information service
• Responding to complex, in-depth research and reference requests
• Supervising several Research Associates in the delivery of basic reference and research services
• Identifying and evaluating databases and other resources to support market research
• Managing service reporting and usage statistics.
• Evaluating knowledge management needs and contributing to the development and implementation of systems and processes to capture, share, and leverage knowledge
• Other special projects as needed
• Day-to day oversight of resources and elements of the work completed

Who Should Apply
The ideal candidate will have a strong market intelligence background developed through several years’ experience in a similar role in the marketing department of a leading business entity or in the market intelligence industry itself.

S/he is able to assist companies to develop strategies for primary market research, and have demonstrated the ability to use research to shape and target marketing strategies for above average business results.

• Relevant work experience in a corporate market intelligence setting or in the market intelligence industry
• Experience in providing service to a varied client base (internal or external)
• Excellent database and Web research skills in a broad range of sectors and industries
• Experience developing policies and procedures within an information service environment
• Experience with knowledge management systems, processes and approaches

Desired qualifications:
• Undergraduate science or technology degree
• Relevant work experience in a scientific or technical research environment
• Familiarity with market research resources
• Familiarity with case management systems
