The Opportunity
Do you enjoy the idea of sitting in the director’s chair – but without the high-maintenance celebrities? Direct a senior team of talented developers through the entire software development life cycle for a company that continues to iterate and innovate in a burgeoning space.

You will be responsible for ALL of the technology built – the consumer site, the ASP solution, and new product initiatives – while playing a key role in the overall strategy and new technology investment to ensure the continued growth of an already successful company. Your cast members will include 16 senior-level individuals from web development, core service development, quality assurance and production support.

As the Director, your objectives will include:
• Assessing and setting the overall team strategy
• Establishing performance objectives aligned with the company’s business strategy
• Conducting in-depth presentations to the team and to other management
• Driving continuous process improvements
• Allocating resources and developing project estimations
• Planning production releases
• Promoting code control uses and software development best practices
• Creating policies for architecture/standards along with other Technical Leads and the Enterprise Architect

And there are no agents to deal with – you’ll be reporting directly into the CIO of the company.

You’ll be measured based on the completion of all project deliverables by the team on time and on budget, the overall success and personal performance of your team members, achievements based on goals set by the CIO, and the institution of new processes and standards to improve the efficiency of the department.

This role requires a high energy individual who can not only lead a team but also be confident in taking on initiative and ownership of the production to ensure that the application development team is efficient and productive.

Who Should Apply
You should have a computer science degree or equivalent formal computer training, combined with a minimum of 5 years experience as an application developer with an additional minimum 3 years’ experience as a Development Manager within a software development environment.

Knowledge of the software development life cycle and project management processes, expertise with Java technologies, analytical ability, leadership attributes (people management, negotiation and decision making skills, the ability to delegate and motivate), and experience dealing with customers are all necessary pieces to this role.
