The Opportunity:
Develop all the bells and whistles of a social networking site, plus create an environment where console (XBOX, PS3) players meet and compete against each other for more than just bragging rights.

This is wide-ranging and challenging work that in many cases has never been done before.

You’ll work on both sides of the server/client fence, incorporating Java Servlets, JSP, Struts, Hibernate, Javascript and Ajax (see the Web Developer role if you’re a specialist in script and Ajax).

A recent media tour saw this company splashed on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and featured on both Fox Business and G4 TV.

Working with the CTO, you’ll design, develop, test and implement interactive applications that include head-to-head challenges, tournaments, rankings, ‘skilled gaming’, and a lot more.

Everything needs to be considered: security, privacy, latency, load, interactivity, scalability and so on.

The company has a working alpha, but the development timeline calls for dozens of new apps, so this is an opportunity to put your stamp on a product that’s still growing and evolving.

Who Should Apply:
Screenshot 1You are a Java Developer experienced in building web applications using Java and JSPs, as well as some server-only code. You are a self-starter and a team player, comfortable and excited about a start-up environment, and are looking to be challenged and grow professionally.
  • Experience working on web-services and databases.
  • Experience building highly-available clustered web applications.
  • Understand security and the levels of protection that must be developed.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly, automate processes, prior experience in leading technical peers, and contributing to planning and technical design.
  • Experience with advanced concepts of coding and SDLC processes and procedures.
  • Broad range of knowledge of multiple application toolsets.
About the Company:
Joining the company at this stage gives you an opportunity to influence strategic decisions and brainstorm features for a pioneering product
Video games have come a long, long way from Pong. Today’s 35-billion dollar gaming industry makes more money than Hollywood. A recently released game, Grand Theft Auto IV, earned global sales of 500 million in its first week.

And things are just getting started.

As Microsoft and Sony’s game consoles bring millions of game players together online, entrepreneurs are filling—and monetizing—the gaps.

In this case, this company’s founders (themselves gamers) saw that online gaming portals weren’t fulfilling their promise of helping gamers:

  • Join or schedule online games quickly easily
  • Create a permanent profile and ‘reputation’ across multiple games, and
  • Play head-to-head or in tournaments for more than just bragging rights.

So they built a product that does all three.

Play for more than prideOperating out of a subway-accessible office in north Toronto, they’ve spent two years putting the pieces together and are now in Alpha testing. The team is small, agile, democratic and looking for top-tier talent across a number of disciplines.

Many challenges, product decisions and growth areas remain and the pace is that of a ‘start-up’—tight deadlines and lightning-quick development. But that’s what happens when you are first-to-market: big pressure, big opportunities, and big rewards.

Joining the company at this stage gives you an opportunity to influence strategic decisions and brainstorm features for a pioneering product.

Millions of gamers are waiting for you.
