To better understand the web applications and features you’ll be testing, as well as the company’s product in a general sense, see these roles:
• Java Developer
• Web Developer
The Opportunity:
Lead and organize a small team that will grow significantly in the next 12 months, working shoulder-to-shoulder with Engineering to perfect a still-evolving product architecture.
You’ll focus on destructive black-box testing of acutely cutting-edge development—the unexplored crossroads of social networking and ‘skilled gaming’.
A host of mission-critical testing elements are at play here, notably security and performance, and the small size of your team makes automation essential.
A recent media tour saw this company splashed on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and featured on both Fox Business and G4 TV.
You’ll apply your experience to building tools and test strategies for a product that may not necessarily have a precedent or framework. (and you should be excited about that prospect)
This organization is poised at the edge of a 35-billion industry, and this role offers you the chance to innovate and problem-solve at every level.
Professional and personal development beckon and you’ll be a tremendous asset to the company as a whole.
Like the professional gamers who will flock to this company’s portal, this job pays you to ‘blow stuff up’.
Only you get to pick the weapons.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance both unit testing and performance testing frameworks
- Design test strategies, develop test tools and implement test cases to ensure highest quality deliverables for maintenance and new feature releases.
- Improve the overall productivity by identifying tools and processes that increase efficiency.
- Create and maintain functional, performance, stress and endurance tests
- Diagnose and debug issues in a production environment.
- Work closely with Engineering to understand the Product Architecture and work on identifying, designing or enhancing existing test frameworks to support backend test development.
Who Should Apply:
You should bring several years QA experience to the table, particularly with web-based applications.
- Strong knowledge of Linux, PostreSQL, Java, JavaScript, Struts.
- Previously a QA lead in development (preferred)
- Have worked with either LoadRunner, WinRunner or Rational Robot
- Experience in creating backend test frameworks
- Ability to work independently to triage issues and prioritize tasks
- Experience with code coverage and test tool development
About the Company:
Joining the company at this stage gives you an opportunity to influence strategic decisions and brainstorm features for a pioneering productVideo games have come a long, long way from Pong. Today’s 35-billion dollar gaming industry makes more money than Hollywood. A recently released game, Grand Theft Auto IV, earned global sales of $500 million in its first week.
And things are just getting started.
As Microsoft and Sony’s game consoles bring millions of game players together online, entrepreneurs are filling—and monetizing—the gaps.
In this case, this company’s founders (themselves gamers) saw that online gaming portals weren’t fulfilling their promise of helping gamers:
- Join or schedule online games quickly easily
- Create a permanent profile and ‘reputation’ across multiple games, and
- Play head-to-head or in tournaments for more than just bragging rights.
So they built a product that does all three.

Operating out of a subway-accessible office in north Toronto, they’ve spent two years putting the pieces together and are now in Alpha testing. The team is small, agile, democratic and looking for top-tier talent across a number of disciplines.
A recent media tour saw this company splashed on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and featured on both Fox Business and G4 TV. The San Francisco Chronicle named them as one of the ‘top five’ biggest stories coming out of February’s Game Developer Conference.

Many challenges, product decisions and growth areas remain and the pace is that of a ‘start-up’—tight deadlines and lightning-quick development. But that’s what happens when you are first-to-market: big pressure, big opportunities, and big rewards.
Joining the company at this stage gives you an opportunity to influence strategic decisions and brainstorm features for a pioneering product.
Millions of gamers are waiting for you.
