The Opportunity
Be the crossword-puzzle expert of RIM’s System Architecture department. Your understanding of information flow, from macro-level conceptualizations to the micro-level nuances of protocols, will make you an indispensable member of the BlackBerry team.
As a performance architect, you’ll work with other departments to ensure optimal system performance. With a particular focus on transport protocols, you will benchmark performance, analyze bottlenecks, and design, implement and measure new prototypes and performance models.
The key to this role is a deep understanding of transport protocol issues and familiarity with wireless technologies.
Competitive salary + bonus/profit sharing + RSP matching
The organization is also generous with its yearly bonus, tying it in to company performance. Growth in software development is expected to top 30% this year and 2007 is expected to be a very successful year for RIM.
Finally, Research in Motion prefers to hire full-time employees. That means family-friendly packages, better job security and the chance to work with the same skilled people day in and day out.
Who Should Apply
You have a proven track record of implementing and analyzing the performance of network communications systems, combined with experience creating protocol specifications and developing protocol stacks from a specification.
Experience with performance analysis tools is essential. A background in statistical analysis, software systems development, design and architecture in telecommunications and/or network infrastructure sectors is a definite plus.
As a senior member of the team, you should have 8+ years of software development experience in a high tech environment using Java and C/C++ including network programming, along with a Bachelor or Master’s degree that complements your career choice.
In-depth knowledge of transport protocols, especially Internet protocols, combined with experience in wireless data systems and protocols is a necessity.
