The Opportunity
The Team Lead, Application Platform Documentation will manage a growing team of technical writers who produce documentation for BlackBerry mobile application developers.

In addition to planning, writing, and producing developer documentation, the team lead participates in department initiatives in areas such as content management, information architecture, training and mentoring, and quality, and usability.

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong technical and leadership skills to meet project commitments and customer expectations for high-quality documentation across a range of products and releases.

The team lead must work with the team to improve the overall planning and implementation of documentation activities, solicit and address feedback from customers and customer-facing teams, and set priorities for quality and process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the performance and development of team members through goal setting, performance reviews and feedback and provide ongoing leadership and support.
  • Assign projects and provide appropriate direction and support to team members to help team members succeed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships at various levels of the organization, as well as with external customers and partners, to foster collaboration across functional areas, set strategic priorities, standardize and streamline processes, and resolve conflicts.

Who Should Apply

  • Post-secondary education in professional writing, computer science, project management, or related field.
  • 5+ years experience working on complex, technical product documentation for developers.
  • 3+ years experience developing and leading high performing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at the same time in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent technical writing, technical editing, and information architecture skills.
  • Experience writing developer documentation for software development kits (SDKs).
  • Working knowledge of Java™; knowledge of Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) is an asset.
  • Experience working directly with customers through focus groups and interviews.
  • Experience with XML-based content management systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with mobile communications networks.
  • Solid understanding of the software development process.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

  • Working knowledge of enterprise programming (J2EE or .NET).
  • Experience producing or updating generated API Reference documentation.
  • Experience developing Java sample applications or sample code snippets.
  • Familiarity with corporate IT systems, such as web servers and relational databases.
  • Knowledge of network security and cryptography.
  • Knowledge of structured writing and XML authoring tools and the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA).
