Toronto, ON
Despite a recession, web ad spending will grow by 10 per cent (to 51.1 billion) in 2008
The Opportunity:
This role offers you the chance to blacksmith a red-hot concept into a finely tempered, razor-edged web application publishing platform.
Armed with your understanding of how layers of technology, infrastructure and usability underpin a successful web app, you’ll plan and build the company’s flagship product.
While you’ll be an architect first and coder second, this is very much “roll-up-your-sleeves” work. You’ll select base technologies that will scaffold the most robust and scalable application/platform possible, integrating APIs, relational databases, cross-browser development, and more in your long-term plan.
Enjoying both salary and options, the small team you’ll join is lead by two successful entrepreneurs – both with expertise running and selling venture-funded companies.
They are looking for you to put your signature on a yet-formless application and platform. You’ll contribute not only your technical expertise, but lend business wisdom and insight – as well as the ability to fight in the trenches and build a polished product.
Why? Because on launch day, this application/platform will only be as good as you are.
Who Should Apply:
You just ‘get’ web apps. You’re incurably curious about what makes some apps succeed (and turn a profit) while others fail.
You’re informed regarding new trends and directions that the industry is headed in – from the perspective of both the coder and the architect.
You’re familiar with multiple programming languages and frameworks, and perhaps even expert in J2EE/Java, .Net, or C++ and you know how to forecast product development and build products that scale as well as they perform.
You can (and have) built applications that consumers actually enjoy using. You can talk about cross-browser CSS/HTML/JavaScript development and have experience with multi-table relational databases and how they might chat with APIs.
Nice to haves:
- Experience working in a startup environment
- Experience in an Agile development team
- Comfortable using Linux
- Knowledge of revenue generating programs available on the web (eg – • Google Adsense, affiliate programs)
Managerial Expertise:
- Experience “shipping product” – You have been through major web application builds
- Experience building/deploying scalable web applications and the infrastructure/redundancies that supports them
- Experience in or near the Web 2.0 application “industry”
- Good understanding of business, business practices, web business models
