Cheekily offer locals chance to "get a life" by going west

WATERLOO REGION, ONTARIO, June 23, 2008 Waterloo Region tech companies are aggressively pursuing Markham’s best and brightest with an offer to “get a life” west of Toronto.

Canada’s fastest-growing tech cluster is on the hunt for top talent, using print and radio advertising, billboards on tech commuter routes, and hosting an event in the midst of the Markham tech community to show off the thousands of opportunities available in Waterloo Region.

Event Date: Wednesday, June 25th, 2008
Location: Delta Markham, 50 East Valhalla Drive, Markham Ontario
Time: 5:00pm – 8:00pm

The keynote speaker for the event is Ian Harrower, a software engineer who’s been working at Google Waterloo since October, 2007. Ian’s principle project is improving the Google AdWords Conversion Optimizer.

The event features more than a dozen Waterloo Region-based tech companies recruiting on-site, including: Agfa Health Care, Christie Digital Systems, DALSA, Google Waterloo, Intelligent Mechatronic Systems, Open Text, Primal Fusion, Research In Motion, Sandvine, and Tech Capital Partners, which represents early-stage portfolio firms AideRSS, Avaning, Covarity, LiveHive Systems, Overlay.tv, Sidense Corp, Sirific Wireless, and Software Innovation.

“Waterloo Region leads the pack in finding innovative ways to attract the best talent,” says Iain Klugman, president and CEO, Communitech: Waterloo Region Technology Association.

“Last week we were in San Diego promoting Ontario to tech ex-pat Canadians, and this week we’re in Markham with RIM, Google and a host of others talking to techies about the best tech community in Canada. Waterloo Region offers the right mix of career opportunities and quality of life.”

“Who wouldn’t want a six-minute commute to work?”

The Markham recruitment event is part of Waterloo Region’s “Get a Life” recruitment campaign.
